Don't think Wigan can play as bad as last week, but I wouldn't put money on a win.

Game will be lost in the half backs and Saints forward dominance

A bit rich for any United supporter to mention men against boys after watching the FA Cup Final!

I didn’t see the game as I was busy watching the Leigh Leopards lift themselves up to third place in the Super league , but perusing the fans columns this morning I was surprised at the number of fans of all clubs who know exactly why their team lost , from the Hull fans and the Wigan fans and the Castleford fans , and a lot of it is the referees fault or so they would have us believe , I believe that referees just turn up and do their jobs to the best of their ability , they get some calls right and some wrong , but without them their would be no game , the best in my opinion is Ben Thaler , and the worst is a tie between Jack Smith and Scott Mikalauskas , just my opinion but the aren’t biased any of them .

peawapp,
The last person I would blame for that debacle yesterday would be the referee. The best team, by a country mile, won. Wigan have problems all over the field. Glad to see that your team are doing well.

peawapp, seem to remember on these very boards you telling us about the
competence of referees you'd witnessed take charge of games you had attended, especially the" baby faced assasin"
Ben Failure gets more 50/50 calls wrong ,but refs the game with common sense
Wigan wouldn't have won if Phil Clarke had reffed last neet

Over the years, Wigan have beat St.Helens 65 - 12, there's been a 0 - 0 draw and St.Helens have beat Wigan 75 - 0.
It's gone round, many times, and it'll go round again in the future.

Match report :-

It was a game of two halves resulting in a 34 - 16 all draw and all the credit went to the lads, who kept it tight and played at 110% for the duration of the game.
Wigan threw everything into attack, pushing men up the field, keeping it tight and creating space in the middle of the park but tired towards the end of injury time.
St.Helens kept it loose and turned the game around, playing the long ball up the centre of the field and, having everything to play for yet nothing to lose, the lads played hard out there and took the game at the final whistle.
Whups, the semi-professional sporting ex-miner was stretchered off, early doors, with a banjo-string injury!

The only comment's i will make regarding the quality of referees in the Super League is that " All of them are NOT fit for purpose "" END of that subject , With regards to Wigan W, There needs to be URGENT action to be taken , be it a "New Coach " or and plus a completely different approach to the buying of New Quality Player's !
You cannot expect to compete with the best when one have a mediocre squad . With respect this comment "Men v Boys " is actually nonsensical !
that can be used for all sorts . I am tempted to use a quote form another tv pundit who used a similar one in as much the remark was (( You can never win the prem with kids )) that was proved wrong I do apologise for using that item , because we are discussing Rugby League aren't we?? I do agree with TONKER too that sport is a fickle item of up's & down's ,otherwise what would be the point of winning every single time ?? On another front i think that some-one should take a serious look at what's happening at LEIGH ,at the moment they appear to be doing all the correct things!!
Finally one thing to bear in mind ,and that is if they are not careful there is an outside chance that the Warriors could go the same way as their neighbours in Wigan Athletic !! Just saying ,one never knows do they ???

whups a daisy

They still won the trophy and did the treble despite Inter playing better than expected, so now it is up to United to do likewise!

I don't think the size of the Wigan pack is the main issue, i reckon they just don't come on to the ball and run hard enough, take the Saints forwards for example they steam onto the ball and really hit the line, whereas the Wigan pack seem to just walk onto passes so obviously they hit the line with nowhere near enough aggression, that's my view.

Because they are being coached wrong…always far too flat…in the backs as well…that’s why they spill the ball or get tackled immediately

when the smallest wigan player his taking the ball up as first receiver on his own line ,then the wigan pack arent up to scratch. mind you the ref his not up to scratch,he gave smith ,s attempt a knock on when it clearly went backwards from which saints scored a try.
last week the saints prop ran in and head butted the giants man and they did not even get a free kick,in rugby union a tackle using the head is an immediate sending off,and that is what the saints prop should have received

Wigan were awful but the ref was as bad…we got our 2nd penalty very late on just to make it seem good
